Philosophy of The Number One Position
The value of a teacher in the role of a student's education is immeasurable. Educators have an impact on the lives children that extends far beyond the confines of our classrooms. However, as vital as we are, we are not the most important person in the education of a student. The Number One Position belongs to each individual student. Being number one isn't easy. It is a responsibility that requires constant practice and support. We believe that a teacher should strive daily to elevate each student in the classroom to The Number One Position. An effective teacher does this by providing opportunities for children to practice mental skills that hold them accountable to that status. Our good friend Charles Fay calls this "practicing thinking so often that someday they will be good at it." Additionally effective teachers build relationships that support children in this endeavor. As we stated before, being number one isn't easy. If we expect to hold our students to this level of accountability our students should be able to rely on us for support. That means we celebrate success and provide guidance to fix failures.
We practice and teach a variety of methods that help teachers and parents accomplish both of these goals. Everything that we discuss and demonstrate has been practiced with success in our own classrooms and with our own families. Much of what we share has been the result of Love and Logic put into practice. Teaching is an investment; learning is the return. Teaching according to these two principles will earn more learning for your teaching investment. We look forward to helping you to increase your odds for finding solutions with your students.
